Course Description

While striving to provide older adults with the best possible care, professionals must deal with the differing expectations of clients, agencies and professionals, as well as confront a variety of challenges, many of which are specific to the senior population.  This can lead to compassion fatigue or what we use to call ‘burn out’.
This course will assist professionals in identifying these challenges and provide strategies for addressing fatigue as health care providers.  This course is designed for social workers, case managers, nurses and other professionals.

Course Objectives

1.  Identify expectations and experiences from the perspectives of agencies, professionals and clients.

2.  Describe compassion fatigue that is associated with professional health care professionals.

3. Describe principals in management strategies to assist team members in meeting the missions and goals of the organization in order to ensure person centered care.

4.  Explain the challenges  of moving from compassion fatigue to healthy compassion vigor.

5.  Strategize about how to handle these challenges through healthy professional boundaries and self-care skills.
